Cervical spinal stenosis treatment
Age 46
Here’s my experience with Bergman Clinics… Five years ago I fell, which caused a bit of a bend in my spine at the C1 level. My manual therapist treated my spine and straightened it. Since that time my right leg didn’t function properly and I looked like I was drunk when walking.
I had an MRI scan performed. The neurologist noticed something a little out of the ordinary, but nothing that could explain my funny walk. So I went to Bergman Clinics to get a second opinion from Dr Van den Doel. He performed a test and inspected my MRI scan and knew what was wrong with me. He referred me to their neurosurgeon, Dr Schröder, who told me that my spinal cord was not entirely surrounded by cerebrospinal fluid. If I’d gone on like that, I might have ended up a partial or complete paraplegic.
The neurosurgeon operated on me on 11 June 2013. When I left the operating theatre, I suddenly felt some strength return to my right hand. I’d believed I was suffering from fibromyalgia until that time, but no, apparently my lack of strength had been caused by my neck! I was immediately able to lift my right leg, and my left leg, too. Until that time I’d only been able to lift them about 20cm, no more. I was allowed to go home the next day and was able to walk normally at once.
My compliments to the entire team at Bergman Clinics, especially to Dr Van den Doel and Dr Schröder.
